The Australian Labour Market Research (ALMR) Workshop is an annual conference designed to disseminate high quality research on labour economics and labour relations and to promote informed debate among economists and the government sector about current issues facing the Australian labour market. The 28th ALMR Workshop will be held on Thursday 7 December 2017.

The timing of the 2017 ALMR Workshop is designed to dovetail with the Asian and Australasian Society of Labour Economics (AASLE) Inaugural Conference to be held in Canberra on 7-9 December 2017 . We are seeking to encourage engagement of the Workshop participants with the International conference that starts at a cocktail party on the evening of Thursday, 7 December. Both events will be co-located to ensure that people can find accommodation close to the main activities. Please note that AASLE Conference is a SEPARATE event from the 2017 ALMR Workshop and people wanting to attend both will need to register separately for each event (when formal registration is open).

The 2017 ALMR workshop will maintain its proud tradition of providing high-quality labour economic research that engages actively with policy makers. However, the ALMR Workshop organisers are aware that it is important for researchers to actively engage in the broader international research community in order to maintain research excellence, and hence the timing and location have been chosen accordingly. This arrangement entails that this year’s workshop will be confined to one day for practical purposes (e.g., to avoid excessive demand on participant’s time). It is anticipated that arrangements for future ALMR Workshops (from 2018) will probably revert to the 'traditional' format that takes place over a day and a half.
