Biotechnology industry

Introduction

This section of the web site consists of two pages. The first provides a brief overview of the biotechnology industry, including key biotechnology research tools. The second examines the impact of intellectual property in biotechnology on the structure of the industry in both biomedical and agricultural biotechnology sectors. In both sectors, empirical evidence suggests that recent proliferation of intellectual property rights has created inefficiencies, and in both sectors a number of efforts have been made to find ways of improving access to proprietary tools.
