I tested students to determine their eligibility for special education services. Upon completion of testing,  I chaired staffings with parents, teachers, and other professionals as indicated. At that point the teams discussesed assessment findings and reached conclusions regarding the appropriateness of providing services to the students. Results of the assessments  and staffing were then incorporated into  formal reports I wrote and sent to parents.

Evaluations normally included cognitive and academic assessment and career exploration. Individuals were additionally assessed to determine their physical dexterity and strength, and their aptitude for specific occupations. I also led a group for the individuals undergoing evaluation and job training. Following 1 to 4 week evaluations I chaired staffings, made recommendations and referrals, and wrote evaluation reports.

I also participated in fund raising activities for RSVP, and I helped organize entertainment functions and recognition dinners for the volunteers in our agency.

I matched new parents with volunteers trained in peer counseling techniques through our agency. I also offered an ongoing support group for all client and volunteer parents.

Volunteer Coordinator, United Action for the Elderly, 2222 Rosewood Avenue, Austin, Texas; telephone (512) 476-6325; January 1985 - December 1988.  Program Director:  Suellen Mills.  I coordinated the activities of approximately twenty volunteers in the preparation and delivery of food for a Meals on Wheels program. This position required extensive personal interaction with volunteers and the elderly clients we served.

To assess the clients accurately, I conducted educational testing and wrote reports, which were based on test results and my personal observations of each client. I would attempt to place those clients without high school diplomas or G.E.D.s in appropriate hospital programs to earn their G.E.D.s.
